4×800 World Record Run At 2018 Millrose Games

February 3, 2018, New York, NY – The USA women’s 4×800 team(Ajee Wilson, Crishuna Williams, Raevyn Rogers and Charlene Lipseyteam) ran 8:05.89 to set a new world record at this year’s Millrose Games. This record replaces the 8:06.50 record set by the Russian team in 2011.

From start to finish the USA team dominated the race. After the second leg, there was no question who was going to win the race. The only question on everyone’s mind was are they going to break the record.  As Ajee Wilson got the baton on the anchor leg an pulled away from the competition everyone was on the edge of their seats.   As Wilson came down the backstretch of the final lap you knew she was on pace to break the record or damn near come close. At this point, the crowd was on their feet cheering Wilson on. Comming off the turn with the finish line in sight there was a brief moment where the only sound you heard was the announcer’s voice counting out the seconds until Wilson hit the tape, then the crowd went wild. The cheering was so deafening I bet it was heard several blocks away from the Armory.

2017 TrackTown Summer Series

New York, NY. – The Track Town Summer Series came to a monumental conclusion on July 6, 2017, with a championship meet, at the world famous Icahn Stadium. Prior to the championship meet at Icahn Stadium, there were two west coast regional meets, one held in San Francisco, and the other in Portland.  This is the second year of the event, and so far has proven to be one of the best things that could have happened for Track and Field in the United States. The event was expanded from one meet to three, due to the great success of the previous year. Over the course of three meets four co-ed teams made up of 36 top American Athletes each, representing Portland, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York, competed for prize money and additional benefits worth over a million dollars.

The Track Town Summer series provides American Athletes with an opportunity to compete in the United States during the summer months in a non-traditional, and fun way. Not only does the event provide a great opportunity for Top American athletes but it incorporates a lot of spectator participation; which helps to build more popularity for this amazing sport. During last years meet hundreds of kids were allowed to view the action up close, being able to sit on the grass next to the shot put, pole vault, and triple jump. But most of all spectators were allowed on the track to cheer on the competitors in the final three events of the meet. This year was no different fans were allowed on the track to cheer competitors on during the last three events, also several lucky fans got to race The Freeze from the Atlanta Braves, this added fun and excitement for the fans during the event.

The conclusion to this year outstanding three meet event was one for the record books, as the New York Empire held on to narrowly beat the Portland Pulse 200.5 to 196.5 to win the championship.  Check out some of the shots from this event below. For results from this event click here.

2017 Armory Track Invitational

New York, N.Y.– This Year as in the past the Armory Track Invitational was a sensational meet. The meet brought together some of the best track talent from high school, college, and pro levels. Over the course of two days, spectators witnessed breath taking performance after performance, which left you in anticipation for what the rest of the indoor season will bring.

There were many outstanding performances over the past two days but three really stood out this year.

Samantha Watson’s 600-meter performance as she broke her own national high school indoor record of 1:28.67 demolishing it with a new time of 1:27.13. Samantha didn’t win the race but following the lead of Olympian Ajee’ Wilson who won the race with a time of 1:24.48 provided the right pace and inspiration, which helped Watson to her record setting time.

Mikey Brannigan set a Paralympic world record in the Men’s 3000m  with an outstanding time of 8:09.64. The previous record was held by Antonio Maria of Portugal with a time of 8:44.17. According to Brannigan, this was his first race for the indoor track season, and he was very surprised by his performance. Brannigan will be back at the armory again on the 11th for 2017 Millrose Games to run the men’s elite mile race.

Tyrese Cooper broke the world junior record in the 300m with a time of 32.87 this comes after  Cooper earlier in the season set the national high school record in the 300m. Cooper although giving an outstanding performance in the race did not win the race. The race was won by two time Olympic bronze medalist Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad in a time of 32.37.  With Cooper’s performance, one can only imagine whats next for this young man.

This year’s meet was amazing as always; the meet gets bigger and bigger every year attracting some of the best talent in the sport at the time.
