2017 TrackTown Summer Series

New York, NY. – The Track Town Summer Series came to a monumental conclusion on July 6, 2017, with a championship meet, at the world famous Icahn Stadium. Prior to the championship meet at Icahn Stadium, there were two west coast regional meets, one held in San Francisco, and the other in Portland.  This is the second year of the event, and so far has proven to be one of the best things that could have happened for Track and Field in the United States. The event was expanded from one meet to three, due to the great success of the previous year. Over the course of three meets four co-ed teams made up of 36 top American Athletes each, representing Portland, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York, competed for prize money and additional benefits worth over a million dollars.

The Track Town Summer series provides American Athletes with an opportunity to compete in the United States during the summer months in a non-traditional, and fun way. Not only does the event provide a great opportunity for Top American athletes but it incorporates a lot of spectator participation; which helps to build more popularity for this amazing sport. During last years meet hundreds of kids were allowed to view the action up close, being able to sit on the grass next to the shot put, pole vault, and triple jump. But most of all spectators were allowed on the track to cheer on the competitors in the final three events of the meet. This year was no different fans were allowed on the track to cheer competitors on during the last three events, also several lucky fans got to race The Freeze from the Atlanta Braves, this added fun and excitement for the fans during the event.

The conclusion to this year outstanding three meet event was one for the record books, as the New York Empire held on to narrowly beat the Portland Pulse 200.5 to 196.5 to win the championship.  Check out some of the shots from this event below. For results from this event click here.

La Lumiere Takes Title As Best High School Basketball Team.

MIDDLE VILLAGE, N.Y. —La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.) with an exciting 70-52 defeat of Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) in the championship of the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals, takes the title as the best high school basketball team in the country.

Both teams had a slow start, and it looked like it would be a close game, going into halftime; the game could have gone either way. But at the start of the second half, La Lumiere came out and let it be known why they are ranked number one. La Lumiere with four players in double digits (Brian Bowen (27-1) with 15 points and seven rebounds, Jaren Jackson (17 points), senior guard Jordan Poole (13 points) and sophomore point guard Tyger Campbell (10 points, seven assists)), unleashed a beating on Montverde. Montverde put up a good fight but was just over matched by the La Lumiere offense.  With just one player in double digits (Sophomore guard R.J. Barrett (26-5) with 25 points), just didn’t have the offensive to fight back against La Lumiere.
